SHORT BIO (90-120 Words)

Jim Patton and his wife and musical collaborator, Sherry Brokus, have a gift for turning everyday moments into songs with deeper meaning. Their new album Two True Loves on Berkalin Records explores the instincts, decisions, and desires that shape our lives. Recorded at Jumping Dog Studios in Austin and produced by Ron Flynt, the project features a powerhouse band including Scrappy Jud Newcomb, John Chipman, BettySoo, and Flynt himself. Blending older songs from the ’80s with newer compositions, the record draws the pair toward a full-tilt rock-and-roll sound that came naturally to everyone involved. Two True Loves is honest, raw, and guided entirely by the songs themselves.

LONG BIO (250-300 words)

Jim Patton and his wife and musical collaborator, Sherry Brokus, have a unique gift for transforming everyday moments into stories with deeper meaning. Their newest album, Two True Loves on Berkalin Records, explores the decisions, desires, and instincts that guide most of our lives. Recorded at Jumping Dog Studios in Austin, Texas, the album was produced by Ron Flynt and mastered by Jerry Tubb at Terra Nova Mastering. It features an impressive ensemble: Jim on acoustic guitar and lead vocals, Sherry adding her signature harmonies, Scrappy Jud Newcomb on lead guitar, John Chipman on drums, BettySoo offering additional harmonies, and Flynt contributing bass, keyboards, acoustic guitar, and vocals.

Patton explains, “We’re calling the album Two True Loves, but we could just as easily have called it I Want It All or Hard Times. The title refers to ‘Art vs. Love,’ but it really means sometimes you must choose between something you love and the one you love. Other themes running through the album include loneliness, fear of loneliness, and consequences born of pure greed.”

Brokus adds, “Two True Loves combines a few older songs from the ’80s with recent compositions. The lyrics inspired a full-tilt rock-and-roll band approach, and everyone on the record heard it the same way—there was no need for discussion. The songs guided us where we needed to go.”

Patton continues, “Ron and I conceived this album as a follow-up to 2023’s Big Red Gibson, skipping right over the folk album that came in between. I’ve always leaned toward a Byrds- or Stones-like sound when working with a full band. This lineup—Scrappy Jud Newcomb, Ron Flynt, John Chipman—is one of the best a player could hope for. They’re schooled in the same music I am, so interpreting my songs came naturally.”

Two True Loves stands as a testament to instinct, collaboration, and the enduring partnership at the center of Jim and Sherry’s music.
